Safeguarding policy

French Language Tutoring provides online French lessons to children, young people and adults. The safety and wellbeing of every young person we teach comes before everything else. This policy sets out how we work and what parents and carers can expect.

Who teaches

All lessons are taught by Kieran, a degree qualified French teacher with Qualified Teacher Status who has taught in UK secondary schools. He holds a current enhanced background check. The certificate details are not published here, but can be provided on request at any time.

No other person teaches lessons or has access to them.

How lessons are delivered

Lessons take place over video call, arranged in advance. Nothing happens through private messaging apps or social media.

For any learner under 18, lessons are arranged through their parent or carer, who receives the joining details. Parents and carers are welcome to be present, to sit in on any lesson, or to be in the same room. No notice is needed and no permission is required.

Lessons are one to one or in small groups. There are no unplanned or unscheduled sessions.

Recording

Lessons are recorded. There are two reasons for this: Kieran uses the recording to write up lesson notes, and learners can rewatch their own lesson to practise between sessions.

Recordings are shared only with the learner and, for anyone under 18, their parent or carer. They are stored securely and are never shared with anyone else or used for any other purpose.

You can opt out of recording at any time, before a lesson or partway through a course. Just say so and recording stops. It does not affect the lesson in any other way.

Contact between lessons

Messages go to the parent or carer's email address. Where something needs to reach the learner directly, such as homework or a resource, the parent or carer is always kept in copy. There is no contact with a learner under 18 that a parent cannot see.

Behaviour standards

Kieran will not:

• Contact a learner under 18 privately, on any platform, without a parent or carer included
• Arrange to meet a learner in person
• Share personal contact details or social media with a learner
• Discuss topics inappropriate to the learner's age

If we have a concern

If anything in a lesson suggests a child may be at risk of harm, we will act. Where it is safe and appropriate we will raise it with the parent or carer first. Where we believe a child is at immediate risk, or where raising it with a parent could increase that risk, we will report directly to the relevant authority without first seeking consent.

In the UK this means the local authority children's social care team, and the police on 999 in an emergency. In Australia it means the relevant state child protection service, and 000 in an emergency.

Any concern is recorded in writing with the date, what was observed and what action was taken. These records are kept securely and separately from ordinary lesson notes.

Raising a concern with us

If you have a concern about anything relating to your child's lessons, email admin@french-language-worksheets.com. Concerns are taken seriously, responded to within 48 hours, and never held against the learner.
